About

Dr. Conway earned his PhD in communication arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He studies media globalization and translation, especially as they relate to questions of national identity and media policy. His book Everyone Says No: Public Service Broadcasting and the Failure of Translation (McGill-Queen's University Press, 2011) describes the role of translation in Canadian television news during Canada's constitutional crisis in the early 1990s. He is currently working on a book about cultural translation and depictions of Islam in North America.
He is also affiliated with the University of North Dakota Institute for Borderland Studies where, with Timothy Pasch, he is co-editing a volume of essays about the role of the US/Canadian border in the Great Plains and Prairies.
